Association "Alternativi International” is looking for 3 motivated Bulgarian participants to take part in a training course in Birmingham, UK!

TC "Youth Can Dance: Intercultural Learning Training"

Dates: 05-13 October 2015

Project description:

This is an Erasmus+ (Youth) – Mobility of youth workers training project. The project consists of three activities training courses (each for a different group of participants).

This information pack is for the Birmingham training course ONLY (5th October – 13th October).

The main aim of the project is to develop youth work competences in intercultural dialogue, notably through non-verbal communication and cultural diversity - dancing activities.

The project builds on long term experience of Praxis Europe in using dance as a tool in intercultural learning - we delivered a long term Grundtvig Partnership on this issue and have established good partnerships in Europe.

Project long-term outcomes: increased youth worker competences in facilitating intercultural dialogue and promoting cultural diversity using dance as a tool, higher quality partnerships between EU and SEE youth organisations and mainstreaming intercultural learning in youth work.

Project objectives:

- to foster cultural exchange through dance

- to strengthen Erasmus+ Youth partnerships, including between EU and SEE countries,

- to increase the quality of youth service provision in partner countries,

- to strengthen intercultural learning in European youth projects and

- to promote cultural diversity through creative tools such as non-verbal communication and dance

Participant profile:

Eligible participants must be youth workers, youth leaders or volunteers in youth organisations, interested in using intercultural dialogue. Good (spoken) English language skills required.

Age range: 18-35

Finances & Travel and Budget limits:

Accommodation, living and other project-related expenses: 100% funded by the EU. This includes everything except for travel costs.

Travel (flights, other means of transport) expenses are compensated (up to 100%), based on the actual expenses incurred and the distance from your location of residence to the location of the project (Birmingham, UK). These distances must be calculated using the distance calculator supported by the European Commission.

Please note that travel costs will be reimbursed on the basis of original tickets, boarding passes and invoices/receipts for travel. Only direct travel from place of residence to Birmingham will be considered (no stop-over’s exceeding 12 hours). Only cheapest/economy class travel will be reimbursed, public transport only. All documents in languages other than English have to be translated. Only actual expenditure/tickets will be reimbursed – no pre-payment for tickets not purchased.

Praxis Europe has a small Project participation fee of 40 Euros per participant, which will be deducted from the total amount reimbursed.

Firstly, you should find a flight to Birmingham (BHX) International Airport. Flying to London airports may also be an option, albeit much less preferable. The arrival day is 5th October 2015 and the departure day is 13th October 2015. If you want to spend more time in the United Kingdom, it is possible to spend maximum 2 days before and after the project and book your travel tickets accordingly along with your accommodation for the additional days.

Planned activities and schedule:

To really get the most out of your training course we will always start early! After socialising in the we'll start at 9:30am in the morning with energizers! Each day we'll have two main activity sessions that will be based on non-formal education and learning by doing. They will all be targeted to intercultural exchange, socializing, having fun and, of course, our main project's topic – using Dance to help the youth leaders and young people. We'll all go to lunch and dinner together in the city centre and have coffee breaks during the day. If the weather is good we'll be doing some of the activities outside so that you could enjoy it to the fullest. Naturally, we’ll leave free time for you to relax in the city. In the evenings we'll have cultural nights (each country have to prepare for that), which will be followed by further socialising and having fun.

The main activities include:

  • Meeting, icebreaking, team building

  • Introduction and usage of YouthPass, reflections, evaluation activities

  • Country presentations of partner youth organisations, youth initiatives

  • Analysis diversity youth programmes in each other’s countries

  • Dance Workshops

  • Group exercises, games, quizzes, simulations, educational activities on diversity;

  • Generating non-formal methods for teaching young people about diversity;

  • Movie afternoons on diversity. Making of a video on the topic

  • Setting further work-plan: preparing Erasmus+ projects;

  • Excursions to the city / sightseeing / visiting Europe’ largest library;

  • Playing continuous games such as “The Killer”, “Best buddy”, filling in “Gossip Boxes”, etc.

  • And of course HAVING FUN! Because that’s the key thing, isn’t it?

If you are interested to participate in the project, please send email of interest to: yia.alternativi@gmail.com and we will provide you with application form

Please use as a subject of your email / TC- UK/
